What are multi-currency donations?
Multi-currency donations allow your supporters to choose the currency that they donate in and then their payment is automatically converted into your organisation's home currency in your Stripe account. This makes it more likely that overseas donors will make a contribution and helps fundraisers who have personal networks who aren't based in your home country.
How do multi-currency donations appear on fundraising pages?
Donations will always appear in the currency that the donor used to avoid confusion, alongside an approximate home currency amount. See example below
How are my dollar handles affected by multi-currency donations?
When your donor selects their currency, we automatically convert your dollar handles as closely as possible into the new currency. We do some rounding to ensure that whole amounts are still shown to donors.
How do multi-currency donations appear in my reports?
Please see our Multi-currency reporting article.
How do I disable multi-currency payments?
You can easily disable multi-currency payments at an organisation or campaign level. Simply navigate to the advanced tab on your organisation or campaign settings and select Disabled for Donations or Sales or both.
Are multi-currency payments tax deductible?
Please note this is not legal advice. Each country has different laws around tax deductibility of donations but in general a donation must be made to a charity in the same country as the donor to be considered tax deductible. Please consult your local laws and regulations for more information.
Are there any extra fees for multi-currency payments?
Grassrootz does not charge any additional fees for multi-currency payments. Stripe charges a currency conversion fee as part of the exchange rate for the payment. Please contract Stripe for specific details around this fee.
